Trichology Center
What is Trichology?
Trichology is the scientific study of the hair and scalp. It involves the diagnosis and non-medical treatment of problems surrounding the hair and scalp.
When should I contact a Trichologist? If you are experiencing any of the following: sudden bald spot, excessive shedding, overall thinning, excessive oiliness or dryness, breakage after a chemical service, or persistent itching/burning of the scalp.
Trichologist vs. Dermatologist – Trichologists are para-medical (non-physician) hair and scalp specialists trained to incorporate a holistic approach in researching and identifying the root cause of hair/scalp disorders. A comprehensive consultation is rendered, and a detailed evaluation and recommendation will be provided. Dermatologists use a medicinal approach to treat the symptoms often leaving the cause untreated. Trichologists can recommend, prepare and administer appropriate treatments. If the diagnosis is determined to be beyond the scope of the trichologist, a referral to a medical doctor will be given.
Dr. Valencia Jones, Trichologist will carefully review all pertinent information during the consultation. A thorough examination will be conducted. It will include digital photographs, microscopic analysis of the hair follicle and scalp, hair density test, biochemical/nutritional evaluation, and polarized examination of the hair bulbs. Dr. Valencia will attempt to establish the underlying cause(s) of the hair loss or scalp problem. The client will be contacted with the results. A treatment plan will be recommended or a referral to a medical doctor will be given. A follow-up appointment is then scheduled, if necessary.
Treatments
Treatments used in Trichology include, but are not limited to: creams, topical ointments, steam treatments, micro-circulation therapy, hyperbaric oxygen treatments for the scalp, dietary supplements, nutritional therapy, hair and scalp exfoliation, and low level light therapy. Uses non-prescription products, topical applications, and/or nutritional supplements; regular treatments on a consistent basis yield the best results.
The High Frequency Comb Electrotherapy
High frequency scalp skin care treatment is a safe and gentle non-invasive treatment.
Through its rapid oscillation, high frequency current improves the process of nourishment, gently exfoliates the skin, promotes local blood circulation, stimulates local glandular activity, supplies heat to the area which is soothing to the nervous system and significantly improves the scalp’s receptiveness to and the overall effectiveness of post-treatment hair growth formulas. For many years, hairdressers have used high frequency current technology to revitalize scalp conditions which can aid in promoting healthier hair growth. A high frequency current which stimulates the surface of the scalp by means of massaging the cells of the scalp, it also improves the process of nourishment, stimulate local blood circulation, stimulate local glandular activity, supplies heat and is soothing to the nervous system of the scalp.
MicroDermabrasion Treatment for the Scalp
Removes build-up around follicle sites and increases cellular turnover; restores the scalp and adds strength to hair; a perfect treatment for the scalp after long-term styles like weaves, braids, twists, and cornrows
Soothing Scalp Treatment
Perfect to soothe itchy, flaky scalps; gently softens and removes scales from the scalp due to common scalp conditions like: sebhorreic dermatitis, scalp eczema, scalp psoriasis, and dandruff.
Reconstructive Treatment
This conditioning treatment helps to replenish dry, damaged and brittle hair with the use of conditioners that are enriched with proteins and moisturizers. This treatment helps to stop breakage caused by heat damage and chemical processes, infusing moisture into the hair strands and restoring the hair’s elasticity
Hair Mineral Testing - $200
Why Test For Minerals?
Trace minerals are essential in countless metabolic functions in all phases of the life process.
Zinc is involved in the production, storage, and secretion of insulin and is necessary for growth hormones.
Magnesium is required for normal muscular function, especially the heart. A deficiency has been associated with an increased incidence of heart attacks, anxiety and nervousness.
Potassium is critical for normal nutrient transport into the cell. A deficiency can result in muscular weakness, depression and lethargy.
Excess sodium is associated with hypertension, but adequate amounts are required for normal health.
What Can Cause a Mineral Imbalance?
Diet | Stress | Medications | Pollution | Nutritional Supplements | Inherited Patterns
What Is Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis?
Hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA), is an analytical test which measures the mineral content of the hair. The sampled hair, obtained by cutting the first inch and one half of growth closest to the scalp at the nape of the neck, is prepared in a licensed clinical laboratory through a series of chemical and high temperature digestive procedures. Testing is then performed using highly sophisticated detection equipment and methods to achieve the most accurate and precise results.
Why Use The Hair?
Hair is ideal tissue for sampling and testing. First, it can be cut easily and painlessly and can be sent to the lab without special handling requirements. Second, clinical results have shown that a properly obtained sample can give an indication of mineral status and toxic metal accumulation following long term or acute exposure.
A HTMA reveals a unique metabolic world; intracellular activity, which cannot be seen through most other tests. This provides a blueprint of the biochemistry occurring during the period of hair growth and development
